The Water Cycle

We are working very hard in Room 9 on our explanation writing. We used one of our SESE topics and focused on explaining how the water cycle works. Of course, no topic is complete without an experiment for these budding scientists!

Here, you will see our experiment. The sun heats up the water and helps it to evaporate and create water vapour. This vapour condenses to form "clouds" and when the clouds get too heavy with droplets it falls as precipitation or rain. It gets collected when it falls back in rivers, lakes and streams.

Clare's credits

These wonderful children have been working so hard and doing their absolute best in every aspect of school from their work to their behaviour. They completed their Clare's credits book and got a prize from Mrs. Leonard today. They really are a "credit" to St.Clare's.

St Patrick's Day and Lá glas

Today we had a Lá glas ar scoil. We were allowed to wear in green clothes and we had some activities for Seachtain na Gaeilge. When we went back to class in the afternoon we finished some of our art activities. We made St. Patrick's Day badges, headbands and paintings this week.

Art competition winner Room 9

Well done to the Room 9 winner of the art competition!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Rinneamar an Dreoilín ar scoil inniu. Bhí áthas ar gach duine bheith ag damhsa sa halla agus bhí na múinteoirí ag damhsa freisin. Is bréa linn ár dteanga.

The children excitedly waiting in the corridor for the Cultural Parade to pass through! Our class was very well represented by wearing their own traditional clothes.

Volcanoes

We learned about a famous volcano during our work on Antarctica called Mt. Erebus. It inspired some of the children to make their own volcanoes at school. We used a bottle, some shredded newspaper, flour and water mixture and tape to create the shape of the volcano. Then we painted our creations. We did all of this in our free time when we had our other work completed. We are learning to be very efficient.

We even did an experiment to make lava in the classroom. We mixed water and baking soda, some red food colouring and some washing up liquid. Finally we added the special ingredient which was vinegar and the lava soon started to flow. It was super cool.

Take a look at our wonderful creations!

Room 8 enjoying sharing books at the library with friends from an older class.

World Book Day

We had lots of fun today for World Book Day! We were allowed to dress up, bring in our favourite book or just bring in a teddy for some extra reading time. Our teachers even swapped classes and read nice stories to our friends.

Room 8 trip to the Recycling Centre

February was another great month of learning, exploring, being scientists and we also managed to go on a couple of trips! Room 8 were very busy!

Materials experiments using various solids and liquids and of course a little bit of chocolate!
