We have been learning a new mathematical concept called transformation. We learned about how shapes can be flipped, slid and turned. Of course, we learned the correct terminology for these: reflection, translation and rotation. These terms tell us how a shape moves. We played games on our ipad to show reflection and used concrete materials in class to make mirror images of shapes and patterns using tiles and pegboards. We then focused on the most exciting part of our transformation learning- making fidget spinners!! We decided to focus on rotation and how a shape can be rotated around a point. We decorated with our own designs and problem solved any issues. We even wrote the procedure on How to Make a Fidget Spinner in case our friends in the other classes wanted to make some. We have been working hard on the structure of a procedure as well as bossy verbs and how to write snappy, succinct sentences.
